Trees&Life is a movement with a worldwide vocation of concrete and immediate action on the climate through the community-based reforestation. Its main innovation, followed by renowned scientists, is to act as a lever, on a large scale, upon the forest, not only as carbon shaft (capture of carbon from the atmosphere by photosynthesis) but also as a source of humidity for the soil and for the atmosphere (by evapotranspiration); this humidity helps to “cool” the local climate and then to increase the resilience of the local communities with respect to the already perceptible effects of climate change.
Beyond the daily more alarming climate assessments, this programme gambles on immediate action and scientific applied research for the benefit of those who are already affected by climate change. In so doing, it also develops a new engineering for the restoration of ecosystems that will be indispensable to tomorrow’s economic world.
